5 Lifestyle Hacks

Want an easier way to lose body fat, increase your energy, sleep better, reinforce your immune system and just generally feel better all the way around…?

Here are just five Lifestyle Hacks that you could make almost effortlessly to help improve your health.

The fact is, everything from losing body-fat to long-term health is all about making healthy lifestyle choices.

Lifestyle Hack #1 –  SLEEP:  If you’re like most people, you need to sleep more. Adults need an average of eight hours of sleep each night.  And I’d be willing to bet you aren’t getting that much. When you don’t get adequate amounts of rest, you’re more likely to be hungry, overeat and gain weight.

Here’s the truth…

If you’re tired you won’t feel like cooking a healthy meal.  Instead, you’ll opt for fast (fattening) food instead.  This very same lack of energy will also likely cause you to skip the gym.  On top of that, sleep deprivation causes your metabolism to slow down – just the opposite of what we want!

Lifestyle Hack #2 – TELEVISIONS AND COMPUTERS:  Millions of people are in the habit of sitting in front of the TV or computer for hours on end after a stressful day at work. Sure, you may be worn out and need a break.  But, sitting on the couch, zoned out, watching TV or jumping “online” for gaming or social media is not the way to go.

If you’re going to sit on the couch, grab a couple of light weight dumbbells and start some arm, shoulder or core exercises while watching TV.  Just ask me.  I can show you a few.

And, if you must be “online” then, how about standing instead of sitting.  There are lots of options for inexpensive “standing desks” and riser platforms that allow you to stand while at your computer.

Lifestyle Hack #3 –  BREAKFAST: One of the biggest secrets to successful weight-management and overall health is: BREAKFAST!  If you’re one of those “run-out-the-door” morning people who constantly skips breakfast – you’ll never reach your goals.  You’ll be excessively hungry by mid-morning and will likely end up snacking on overly processed donuts, bagels and other sugary treats.  Or, you’ll order an over-sized lunch.

Sure, scheduling a healthy breakfast may require a dramatic lifestyle change. But research continually reveals the habit of eating a healthy breakfast is key to over health on several levels including your weight, stress management and daily energy levels.

If you can get to bed earlier than usual and set your alarm to give yourself time to eat breakfast – you’ll be doing yourself a huge favor!

Lifestyle Hack #4 – DRINKS:   This is a big one.  If you’re one of the millions hooked on soda, alcohol or other sweetened beverages, then, your fitness goals may forever remain out of reach.  You can replace these drinks with water or healthy low sugar juices and low sodium vegetable juices. You should also know that your brain often confuses thirst with hunger.

So at the first sign of hunger, don’t grab a snack or calorie-filled drinks. Instead, grab a glass of water.

Lifestyle Hack #5 – ACTIVITY:  Weight management, increased energy, stress relief and overall health all revolve around increasing your metabolism by burning calories and fueling your body.  Therefore, it should make sense to you that nutrition and exercise go hand-in-hand.

If you want to improve your health in an accelerated manner, then, add or increase the amount and intensity of physical activity in your daily life.

For many people, this is the most difficult lifestyle change of all.  But, the benefits are well worth it.  When exercise is a normal part of your everyday routine, it becomes a “lifestyle” with all kinds of healthy benefits.
